Thunder was rolling and lightening was striking. It was raining off & on right up until kick-off. I don’t know what it was about the night… but our kids won! The first varsity football win for Vela High School… it was an incredible game for us. Not only did they win, but they won big… 35-13 was the final score. The first two touchdowns were scored in the first 6 minutes of the game.
There were tears and laughs and jumping and all manner of joyful expression everywhere.
Watching these coaches build this high school football program… all the time at work, sacrificing time with their families… the stress and the worry – the 0-10 season last year… it is beginning to shift for them. The kids are working so hard learning the playbooks, getting stronger, becoming a machine.
As for me… I did pretty well at last night’s game. I had a slight walking issue towards the end of the game but it wasn’t as bad as the previous week. The temperature was in the upper 70s but the humidity was off the charts. The air was oppressive… it was so thick to breathe in. But for today, I seem to be alright. I know that by Saturday I’ll be in worse shape but that’s okay. I don’t have much to do… a few hours away from home tomorrow… the rest of the weekend will be spent in recovery mode.
And now I must
hop slither step pour myself into the shower and freshen up for the ol’ job.
