I made the decision. I’m going to see a disability lawyer next week. That’s it. This is such horseshit. I mean really… I have been working for 31 years. I have given my money to social security for 31 years. And now all I want is my money back. I know this is all old news and that many of you have been in this very position. It just really pisses me off. The idea that SSA was created for our “own good”… it’s like a bank account in the gov’t bank and they are watching over our money for safe-keeping. Isn’t that how it was all proposed back in the Roosevelt days? “Americans still pay into Social Security while they work so they will receive money when they stop working.” We can’t be trusted to put money aside for our own care when it’s needed, the almighty big brother will do it for us. Horseshit. Because when it comes down to it, you can’t have your money back. Right? Can you tell I’m pissed LOL

I know of people living on disability who are not disabled… they work and get their monthly check. The jobs are cash jobs… unreported income… and drawing disability. WTF. In the letter I received it is writing that they can see I have limitations but that I am receiving treatment. And here is the kicker…

“Medical information shows that your condition is being treated. As long as you continue to follow your doctor’s orders, your condition should remain under control.”

Again, WTF? Who are the idiots looking over these things? Obviously they know nothing about the condition or they would know that with or without treatment, MS if far from “under control”…ever.

“You described various limitations caused by your symptoms and the evidence does show you have these limitations. We do not have sufficient vocational information to determine whether you can perform any of your past relevant work.”

Idiots. This is because they made their determination before they sent me the flippin packet in which my vocational information is listed. How is it that they can send out books of questionnaires for me to fill out, allow me to spend $25 fucking dollars to fax it back to them (because I don’t have a fax machine and had to go to Staples) – when they had already denied my claim… two weeks before they mailed me the packet??? Idiots. Idiots. Idiots.

Another kicker in all this crap is that in order to apply for & qualify for disability, you have to be unemployed. How in God’s name do they expect a person to live with no income while they play these idiotic games with my life? With money that I HAVE PAID into the system? MY MONEY.

Anyway….

Okay, I think I’m done ranting about this… for now LOL

I’m just so peeved. I better stop bashing big brother because for all I know they will do a background check on me and find all this stuff here. I don’t give a shit. This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever been through.

Otherwise, it’s been an alright day. Much improved over yesterday to say the least. You see, yesterday… ugh… I had to take Coach a light jacket (apparently it’s an icebox in the coaches office and he freezes in there… I offered an afghan to keep his old man legs warm but he declined), then I had to pick up a sack of feed for the pony. After that was done I headed home. As I pulled into our driveway, I immediately thought “Aw! How nice! Someone installed a fountain in my yard.” Nope. The fresh water hose that feeds the faucets inside the tin can… you know, the sinks, the shower, the toilet… had split and was gushing everywhere! I scooched on over to turn the water off and saw about a 2″ slit in the hose. Sheesh. I guess it’s just too hot out there… So back in the car and off to buy a new water hose line, came back home and switched out the hoses. It really wasn’t that big of a deal… but man! Do we have problems with water or what? It seems like all we have dealt with in the past 4 years are water issues… all the flooding, ruptured water lines, hoses, couplings, gaskets, and on and on and on… At least this time it was outside and it didn’t have anything to do with the tin can.

Coach’s team has their first scrimmage against another team tonight. It’s all very exciting! The inaugural season of the Vela HS Sabercats. It will be fun to see what type of team they have built. I know they have put in soooo much work. The coaching staff has been really committed to this new team. They are making history tonight.

P.S. Thank you all for your wonderful comments & support. It really means a great deal to me. And you have kept my chin up & shined the light of encouragement on my face… thank you!

  1. Hi Sherri, I am new to your site. I was diagnosed with MS in 1997 and worked until I started having seizures in January 2010. A month later, I was laid off due to elimination of my position. Prior to that I had several limitations because of blindness in one eye due to optic neuritis and severe fatigue but I kept trudging along because I couldn’t stand the thought of being a “kept woman.” LOL Anyway, for the last six or seven years, I can’t remember =) I worked remotely from home so I didn’t have to worry about driving to a job and my hours were relatively flexible although I was working about 60 hours a week. I was able to start later when I couldn’t get out of bed in the morning and work in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep. When I lost my job, I tried to find another job but couldn’t because of all of my limitations. In fact, I was contemplating Long-term Disability through my employer when I was terminated so in early 2011, I applied for SSDI and was immediately rejected. This is all part of the game. So I hired a disability attorney shortly thereafter and I just had my hearing in front of a judge about two or three WEEKS ago. This was after I completed oodles of paperwork as did my husband just to make sure that I wasn’t fibbing about anything (I guess.) The whole process has taken about 18 months so settle in and get comfy and just be patient. Just remember that if you hire an attorney, you have a much better chance of winning and the attorney will only be paid if you win and he/she will only get paid a percentage of back pay. Back pay is your monthly pay multiplied by the number of months from the time you first applied until the time you are finally approved. I am now waiting to hear if the judge feels that I am disabled. I was a Business Analyst after being a VP of Operations and Development and according to the vocational specialist at the hearing, I can now be a “stuffer” or a “patcher” but only on a part-time basis. If anyone can shed some light on what the hell a stuffer or a patcher does, please let me know. =) So Sherri, just know that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that if you hire an attorney, you have about an 80% success rate. Good luck and God Bless.

  2. Government paper work, always vent! Or you’ll go nut’s! Spent 17 years doing paperwork in the Army I can relate.

  3. I am so glad that you are going in and fighting. As you say, idiots. I will cross everything for you.

  4. It is pathetic in every possible way, a slap in the face. 31 years of doing right then this is a slap in the face.
It’s my understanding that right now they’re denying people up to three times before acceptance. I could go into the Apostle Peter jokes but I won’t. All I know is, for awhile now SSDI has been denying ALL cases up to three times no matter what. Perhaps since its an election year you could take this issue to the facebook page of your local representative.

  5. I am so sorry, it IS ridiculous!

  6. I have no idea how a first world country can treat its people worse than dogs. I mean shit, if you were a f-king dog you would get better care. The damn insurance companies have no problem taking their claws and raking your money out from under you and promising they “will be there for you” but it is all lies. There must be a special hell for people that work for these places. The saddest part is they are going to fight your appeal until they exhaust you and you want to give up. (Here, fill out this 75 page report and then we will send you another one next wee; They we will go about losing it so you have to fill them out again. We will also phone you and phone you and harass you until you can’t take it any longer.)
Sherri, be STRONG. Let us help you get through this. Though we can’t help you fill out all the forms and do the fighting we are here to listen to you vent and off support, This is a simple issue of right and wrong. Hugs to you, my friend.

    • it sucks really… i was reading a story today about a woman who was killed in an auto accident. it wasn’t her fault. her insurance refused to pay out what the policy states. the family had to sue the other driver and get a civil judgement. then once his insurance paid out his part (he was underinsured) then the victim’s insurance was supposed to pay out the remainder – which was still not what her policy was… i couldn’t believe it. well, actually yes i can.

i’ve been really lucky with my health insurance. no real problems at all… but this stupid Social Security crap just makes me crazy. i suppose that is why gov’t run healthcare scares me… the current programs don’t do what they are supposed to yet we are supposed to have faith that we will receive proper medical care with Obama’s health care plan… pft I’m no so sure about that…

  7. Sherri, you have every right to vent! I hope your lawyer can straighten this out and that you’ll be awarded the $$ owed you. He may even be able to get it retroactive to when you first left work! Good luck and keep us in the loop.
    Good luck to Coach.
    Peace,
    Muff
