There are celebrities living in my head these days… and my sinuses, and my nose, and my ears.

I am ready for them to move on. Yesterday I was feeling better, like maybe I was on the upside of this stuff. And then the weather changed. We have been hot, then cold, then hot… I think the dramatic temperature changes from day to day is having a huge impact on my ability to kick this cold’s ass.

We spent the past several days at my mom’s house. It was great to spend time with her & Harold (stepdad). I haven’t seen them since June when we moved to the Valley. I love visiting with mom. We sit and talk… and talk… and talk LOL My brother & his family joined us on Thanksgiving day. I enjoyed seeing them… it’s been many months, well, since the wedding in January, since I’ve seen them. Coach & I came back home on Saturday afternoon. I love traveling… but man, I LOVE coming home!

There are 2 beautiful black labs at my mom’s house. Abby & Jenny. Such good dogs. Jenny has had a rough go of it lately. She’s had some chronic ear problems that required surgery. She is now deaf. Poor girl. I have to say though, she is really doing great. She and mom are developing their own sign language.

And here is a picture of the turkey aftermath…

I spent some time wandering around the backyard taking some pictures… it’s so pretty there.

The swimming pool

There’s a very large lake behind the house that is so so dry… that little bit of water is all that’s left. No more fish, the ducks have very little water to hang out in. It’s pretty much just a dried up splotch of land that used to hold water.

The little apartment thing at Mom’s… our home away from home

I got my A1C results over the weekend… 6.3. High but it could be worse. I had an appointment with the doctor this morning… we are going to try controlling things with diet for 3 months then recheck the A1C. I have a glucometer and have been tracking with finger sticks. I’m trying to get a handle on what makes my BS peak & what time of the day it tends to peak. I’ll do that for a few days to help me figure things out. I haven’t had much sugar in my diet for quite some time, except the past week with those wonderfully delicious peppermint marshmallows I put in my coffee. I’ll have to get rid of those (trash not eating) and by some peppermint extract instead. My big problem is carbs… I LOVE pasta, rice, pizza, enchiladas, tamales, cheeseburgers… all that shit that’s not so good for me.

So I’m going to have to make some lifestyle changes…and while it doesn’t seem all that dramatic, it’s going to be hard. I’m a food addict. Hello. My name is Sherri and I’m an addict…. bleh.

Being an adult is like looking both ways before you cross the street and then getting hit by an airplane.

  1. Hi! My name is Mary and I am a food addict, bleh!

  2. Great pictures, Sherri. Hope that cold takes a hike soon. My daughter still has to check her b/s after having gestational diabetes. We got used to finding foods specifically with low glycemic indices for her.. Dreamfields is the one we use. She also runs into trouble with the sugars in fruits. She’s a tiny little thing, and a vegetarian, but her doctor now wants her on lean proteins. Good luck with yours — diabetes is a rotten disease!
    Peace,
    Muff

    • I’m not a big fruit eater so I’m pretty good there. I don’t do candy hardly ever… but man, giving up pasta and rice is a hard thing to do! I’m going to have to dig really deep into the middle of my soul to find some will power

My doc told me to stop checking my BS all the time LOl he said I’ll make myself crazy doing that. I’m still checking though… I’m a girl who loves patterns and cause/effect stuff.

Lean protiens… nuts, peanut butter? Of course, carbs in that stuff…. ugh

  3. It sounds like it was a good getaway weekend for you both, aside from the cold. I like your Mom’s garden whimsy, and her black labs – they are such good dogs.

As for your carbs … try switching to whole wheat/grains. WW pasta, WW tortillas, brown rice, stevia instead of sugar in your coffee. These simple changes will make a big difference in how you metabolize the carbs. Good luck.

    • I will look into the WW stuff… if that means I can still have some pasta I will be a happy girl! I don’t use sugar in anything … haven’t for years, but I do use Splenda which isn’t so good. I have on my list stevia and equal…

  4. How wonderful to be able spend time with your mom! Love your photos, the flamingos my fave. Ya, I’m an addict too…food that is.

    • The flamingos are really cute… there is a big flamingo they are hanging from up top. I for some reason didn’t get that one in the photo…

I’m glad to know I’m not the only food addict around… though I don’t wish it on anyone… bleh
