a : a political right
my thoughts start here…. the part you have all been waiting for ha!
so now that we have all that down, do you think you are truly free? i mean, those of us living in the good ol US of A are living a life of freedom, right?
sort of, that’s what i say
the right of petition,
an independent judiciary (the Sovereign was forbidden to establish his own courts or to act as a judge himself),
freedom from taxation by royal (executive) prerogative, without agreement by Parliament (legislators),
freedom from a peace-time standing army,
freedom to bear arms for their defence, as allowed by law,
freedom to elect members of Parliament without interference from the Sovereign,
freedom of speech in Parliament,
freedom from cruel and unusual punishments and excessive bail, and
freedom from fines and forfeitures without trial.
how many of those freedoms do we still have, really have… in case you don’t recognize that list, it’s from the Bill of Rights
sure, i’m free to pursue and education; free to work in most any job i choose, free to live where i choose, free to drive the type of vehicle i want, free to express myself – mostly
but think about it…. are we free to wear what we choose? for most of us we are free to wear the clothing of our choice about 14 hours of most days…
are we free to say what we want? not really… what with political correctness, fear of offending, fear of law suits, fear of bodily injury – we are not really free to say what we want
and are we really free to live where we want? mostly
and are we really free to work where we want? mostly
and are we really free to read the news? well yes, but it’s censored…
and are we really free to watch the shows we want? yes, but then again, it’s censored
food? arms? same thing…
so, when i think about it… i have to conclude that on the surface, at a very superficial level that is built to deceive, yes i am free…
