Oct 012010

so i spent my birthday in the following ways:

  • no breakfast, no coffee, no nothing
  • 1 1/2 hours spent in the lab for a little blood draw – waste of time
  • they’re checking sed rate, protein uptake, and anti-nuclear ABS
  • worked a bit on some bar graphs for the boss man
  • some folks from work took me to lunch at Casa Garcia – yummy
  • after lunch they had a cake – so much sugar that when they removed the lid you could smell the sugar…. yeowsa!
  • more bar graphs til the end of the day…

(entertained yet?)

  • rushed home, changed clothes, and off to the game
  • LBJ vs Travis…we won
  • in the last minute of the game, a player on the other team got a “stinger” hope he’s gonna be alright
  • he wasn’t moving…took him out on back board, c-spine
  • tadaa! happy birthday to me!

In the morning, we wake up bright & early and head out for the dreaded MRI…ok so not dreaded so much. I want to know. I need to know. I just don’t like the idea of laying in that tube for just under 2 hours and having some radioactive methyl ethyl shit injected into my body. That is happening first thing in the morning, then several hours later we meet with the neurologist….

Today was a decent day… it’s becoming standard – not sure if that is good or bad. But I’m adjusting to the instability…the loss of balance…the speech patterns… the tingling…

Such is life…..

Being an adult is like looking both ways before you cross the street and then getting hit by an airplane.

  1. Happy Birthday to you!!! Sounds like you had a very productive day! Sending you best wishes for tomorrow!

  2. Happy Birthday young lady…I have a feeling since reading your blogs for a while now…Once you get the total lay of the land, and get well versed on your adversary, you will come out of your corner fighting. Just dont lead with your “Blessings”… sorry, but I had to toss that in there. My sense of humor tends to lean to the warped side. 🙂

    • I’m going to do battle Jim…this is an absolute… I am resting up, gathering all my resources…honing up on my walking stick skills… and then watch out MS! here she comes! ha! (I love warped, helps me make it thru the day)

  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my new friend!!! My birthday was 2 weeks ago. Please don’t be afraid of the MRI. I have had several of them and the anticipation is much worse than the real deal. They will put headphones on you with whatever music you like, or maybe even have a movie for you watch. which is good because the machine is very noisy. If you get scared you just have to say something, they can hear you and will respond immediately. I always had them give me some Valium, and that took the edge off. Ask the doctor ahead of time, (call today) and it will make it actually a more ‘fun’ experience if you can imagine. I remember one time they gave me the valium while I was in the waiting room, and a little while later I see them bringing in a wheel chair. “For me” I say with surprise!! “I don’t need that”, and everyone in the waiting room started LAUGHING!!! I guess I was talking REALLY SLOW!!!! and then I had to laugh too. Anyway, I hope this helps and I want to hear all about it afterward if you want to share. xoxo Sandy

    • Oh thank you Sandy!! and Happy belated Birthday to you as well! The MRI went well… no movies or headphones…but I got earplugs. The noise actually kind of lulled me… I’m glad it’s over with… and the worst part was the lack of allowed swallowing when they were doing my neck… ugh!

  4. Happy Birthday to you! I spent the day celebrating my birthday as well. Libras!!! It’s going to be a great year, just different. But you will have a course of action, which will bring comfort to you and a better quality life. The medical community is amazing.

    Have a relaxing weekend.

    • HEY HEY! Happy birthday to you too! Libras rock… and for the sake of balance we must roll too haha! I am anxiously awaiting all the test results so we can start doing something..anything…. I hate knowing I have this and doing nothing about it to help myself

  5. You are such a hoot…good to hear some of your birthday was good!
    I’m praying for you now…hope you’re not claustraphobic :/
    Sending you hugs…Tina

    • no claustraphobia…but i do like to swallow periodically and they don’t allow that in the big machine…. that was a tough one! how is a person NOT SWALLOW?
