…today, I caused my mother much pain. She forgave me in an instant though… I don’t know how long it took her but I know it was the same day.

My father was doing his best to make things better for her. They were in their Volkswagen driving circles around the hospital. Every time they would come to the front doors, the pain wasn’t so bad & Mom would tell Dad to drive around again. And again. And again. I was never told how many times they circled that hospital before Dad finally got her to go in. Or maybe that it just got to THAT point… that undeniable point that there was no turning back.

Mom was having a block… the precursor to epidurals. There was this nurse that my mother has never forgotten. She had some sort of wart on her arm. When she was making my mother bed over into that ball for the block, Mom became angry with her. To get back at her, Mom picked the wart ha! She laid there as the doctor inserted the needle into her back in an effort to bring her sweet relief from the pain I was causing. And Mom picked the nurse’s wart!

That’s how I entered the world. And Mom forgave me for causing her so much pain.

Of course, there have been 48 years between now & then… I know I have caused her pain many times. She has always forgiven me. Dad too.

I have received so many wonderful wishes for this day.

There were many, many more birthday wishes & blessings. So many! It’s been great!

So what did I do on my birthday…? I napped. And I made the best meatballs I’ve ever made before in my life! Today the theme for the coach’s lunch was Italian. I settled on making some meatballs. I cannot believe how good they were!

2lbs of ground beef

2 eggs

½ cup milk

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 tsp. oregano

1 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. black pepper

½ cup grated fresh parmesan cheese.

All the ingredients were hand mixed into an ooey-gooey mess. I made 20 meatballs, about the size of golf balls. I put some marinara sauce in the slow cooker on high heat, dropped the meatballs in & let them cook. For 5 hours. They smelled wonderful! Once they were ready, I put them in a pan & poured the sauce over the top. They were topped with the rest of the parmesan cheese along with some cheddar cheese.

Oh my goodness!

I bought some garlic cheese toast to go along with it…

After the luncheon, I came home and napped… so good. Tonight, if Coach gets home early enough, he’s taking me out to dinner. If not, I’ll make something here. The birthday extravaganza will be finished off with a few loads of laundry.

Being an adult is like looking both ways before you cross the street and then getting hit by an airplane.
